Seven Strategies for using Law of Attraction in Your Marketing

I’ve never liked competing, especially in business. I don’t like the idea of conquering an opponent any more than I like the feeling of defeat. And I know I’m not alone in this. A lot of my customers started their own businesses to contribute to people, and the idea of grabbing their share in a competitive market to succeed in business seems antithetical to their positive missions.

So how do we market ourselves in ways that are more aligned with our purpose and offerings? What approach to promotion can empower us to attract our perfect customers rather than competing for them? I believe the key can be found in integrating the Law of Attraction (as seen in “The Secret” movie) into our marketing plan.

The Law of Attraction says that like attracts like. Mastering the Law of Attraction entails aligning ourselves more with what we desire than to the ‘harsh realities’ of the past. In order to make our self-marketing efforts more attractive, rather than thinking of ways to convince people to want what we offer, we can strategically attract those perfect customers who are already seeking our products and services. In this article I offer seven unusual self-marketing strategies that are easy, fun, authentic, effective, rewarding, and most of all attractive.

Strategy #1) Focus on Who You Want to Attract

In traditional marketing, businesses are encouraged to target their audience. That word “target” makes me think of a shooting range. Rather than shooting my customers, I prefer to attract them, and I know that thinking about what kinds of people I enjoy will attract more people like that to me. When I attract customers I enjoy being with, my work becomes more like play.

About ten years ago when I was first introduced to manifesting and the Law of Attraction, I began writing down the qualities of my ideal customers. This proved to be a very effective way to determine the kinds of people who would inquire about my services. For instance, I wrote down that my perfect customers are up to big things and have projects I love to promote. Since then I have worked with people like Julia “Butterfly” Hill and Café Gratitude, plus a whole host of lesser known entrepreneurs and leaders who are dedicating themselves to personal and global transformation.

What are the qualities, characteristics and attributes of your perfect customers? Take the time to write down everything you want in your customers, their personality, their resources, and how you want them to treat you. Think about what you’d like to hear them say or do. Imagining your perfect customers is a great first step to attracting them to you.

Strategy #2) Tap into Your True Purpose

Entrepreneurs are born dreamers. We all have at our core a purpose that drives us, an inspiration that keeps us burning the midnight oil and lures us out of bed in the morning. For the past several years I have made it a regular practice to ask people what they feel their purpose is, and I notice my perfect customers and I are driven by similar loves. Often it feels like we are meant to work together. Clarifying your purpose and expressing it to the world through your marketing will magnetize your perfect customers to you.

To use myself as an example, I’m inspired by the magic in life. My mission is to experience the magic of life every day and to join with others to create the world of our dreams. Toward this end I created a business called Life is Magic where I showcase products and services that forward my mission.

What is your true calling? What is the “mighty purpose” that is worthy of your life? Meditate on this and write down a single statement that expresses that purpose. See if you can create a business name, website URL, and/or tag line that reflects that purpose in a simple way.

Don't Worry Be Happy

Strategy #3) Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

Have you ever noticed that people are more attractive when they're happy?  Think about this for a minute.  Would you rather hire someone who is loving life than someone who is tense and worried?  Of course you would.  We all gravitate toward people who inspire us to feel joyful.  Your perfect customers are drawn to you when you are happy and self-expressed.

I'm asking you to take a look at what you like to do and make the time to do it.  Though you may think it’s naughty to focus on what you like when there are bills looming over your head, but this little naughty act might just be the most practical thing you can do to attract the resources you need right now.

Recently I decided to go to the movies with a friend right in the middle of the work day (one of the benefits of being self-employed!)  We had a leisurely lunch and went to see Dreamgirls (which was fantastic!)  Is it a coincidence that I received thousands of dollars in deposits that week?  I don't think it was.  We really are more attractive when we're happy... attractive to the people and resources we want and desire.
